Class Descriptions:
Vigorous – Expect challenging, longer held poses and a faster moving, flow style practice with dynamic stretching and strength building. This class is most appropriate for people who have experience with yoga and are able to get up and down from the floor easily.

Wind the Heck Down – A calm yet rejuvenating class to relish the last hours of the weekend and clean the slate before the new week begins. All levels of experience are welcome (great for beginners!), and is most appropriate for people able to get up and down from the floor with relative ease.

Chairish – A chair based class of stretching, standing, balancing, and relaxing.  Especially appropriate for anyone with injuries or chronic pain that makes getting up and down from the floor difficult. No experience necessary.

Wake the Heck Up – An energizing and grounding class to stretch you out & wake you up. Appropriate for all levels of experience (beginners too!) and you need to be able to get up and down from the floor with relative ease.

Gentler  – Expect a slower class to stretch, relax, and release. We use a chair for some standing and strong poses to support our body weight and get “more yoga”, but we do also spend time on the floor. This class is appropriate for all levels and is great for beginners, individuals with chronic pain, injuries and those not wanting to go up and down from the floor many times.

Yoga, Chronic Pain & Healing – A 4 week series to practice and learn about yoga as another tool for living with chronic pain & chronic healing. The physical yoga practice will be chair based; sitting and standing. This class will not address specific conditions. You will learn about yoga philosophy and meditation as it best relates to chronic pain & healing. You do not have to have a personal reason or diagnosis of chronic pain to be in the class. All of our lives are directly & indirectly effected by chronic pain whether it is physical like arthritis, mental like anxiety, or spiritual like loneliness. Come as you are and as you are able.

Yoga, Grief & Growth – A 4 week series to practice and learn about yoga as another tool for living with grief & loss. The physical yoga practice will be chair based; sitting and standing.  While this class will have a dimension of community, it will be a yoga practice and not a talk therapy group.  You will learn concepts of yoga philosophy & meditation as it best relates to grief & loss.  You do not have a to have a personal reason or specific grief or loss to be in the class. We all experience grief and loss whether it is about changes to our health,  death of a loved one, or loss of a job. Come as you are and as you are able.

Beginning Series – A 5 week series to learn what all the fuss is about. You will learn the basic postures of a yoga practice and some basic yoga philosophy. You need to be able to get up and down from the floor with relative ease.

Gentler Beginning Series – A 5 week series to learn what all the fuss is about. You will learn the basic postures of a yoga practice, adapted to be less strain on the back, knees, hip, etc. We will start and end the class stretching and relaxing on the floor but will do adaptations of the traditional flowing poses, so that we do not go up and down from the floor.  So, if it takes you a minute (or two) to get up off the floor, this class is for you. 🙂  You will also learn some basic yoga philosophy.

First Sundays Meditation Night is a free, monthly meditation practice on the Meditation Mantra of the Month. We start with some conversation about the mantra and some gentle chair-based movement, followed by 15-20 minutes of sacred silence (with some guidance). The practice will conclude with some more gentle chair-based movement and closing conversation. ALL are welcome. No equipment or experience with yoga or meditation is necessary. The meditation practice is following the 4-5p.m. Wind the Heck Down Yoga class, in the basement of Uni Place Christian Church. Uni Place has a large parking lot west of the building. You can park in spots that directly face the main church building. There is also free university parking across the street at Huff Hall.  Dates are subject to change as needed, so please always contact Rachel to confirm. Registration is not necessary.

  1. Rachel, Of course I lost your email address after I got it after service on Sunday, but I’m happy that I found your blog. I wish I could come next Saturday, but realize that this particular day is too full. The very reason why I need it so much is the reason why I can’t come! It was a wonderful surprise to find that you were teaching class on my very first try last night. I hope I can make the retreat next month when soccer and cross country season are over :). Hope to see you next Sunday night! Katie Shea

  2. Hi Rachel: is there any room in your Monday class at Wesley for my 22 year old (still checking on her schedule) and myself? And is the first class free? Thanks!

    • yes! There is still room.Because this is a 10 week series and not an ongoing class, the first class is not free. $5 per class or you can purchase a 10 class pass for $50 that works for any of my classes. I hope to see you there tomorrow night!

  3. Rachel,
Where is the Sunday class? I was trying to send my daughter but could not find an open entrance.
    Thanks,
    Marietta

    • Oh nuts. I cancelled tonight’s class because my daughters are sick and the weather was supposed to get bad. I’m sorry! I send out cancellation notices via an email list and also on the Daily Bread Yoga Facebook page. I’m so sorry you did not know that. If you want to receive regular emails from me about upcoming retreats, classes, and cancellations email me at dailybreadyoga@gmail.com and let me know. Again, I’m sorry for the mix up.

  4. Hi! My name is Devin and me and my friend Nikki are interested in joining your grief yoga. Is there anything we need to do or bring before coming.
    Thank you!
    Devin
